I know Jim brought it up when i was talking about fat loss - can anyone give me a good article on it?
I know there are many variations (adjusting total kcals AND macros or just adjusting macros)
which variation would be better for fat loss, and what is the biological plausibility behind it?

I think that very good example for carb cycling might be found in UD2 (ultimate diet 2.0) by Lyle MacDonald

The plausibility behind carb cycling is both psychological and physiological.

Everyone knows that we need to eat less to lose weight. The problem with eating less is you just don’t have the energy to perform well in the gym and thus hold onto the muscle. We also know we don’t need as much carbs on non workouts days than workout days. So some keep it low carb on non workout days and high carb on workout days. Some do Low, Medium, & high( leg days and such). Take it further and some try to get most of their carbs around their workouts than at night or in the morning.

And there is a psychological benefit to having some carbs when you are starving. It really helps to keep you sane on a diet. That’s all there to it. If you search in google, you might find some good articles on it.

I’m starting UD 2.0 as of next week (great read)
Lyle has suggested some interesting fat loss supplements: Yohimbime HCL (for stubborn fat), and the caffeine/ephedrine stack.
He also has suggested Glutamine before bedtime for GH release.
Although he has stated these are absolutely not required, I am wondering if these products really do work.

It’s a real hard diet. It’s for people who want to come down to a single digit body fat.

All the supplements work. They are all CNS simulators and works also by suppressing your appetite. Unless you are preparing for a competition, I wouldn’t worry too much about taking them. I think you should try something simple than something as intense as UD2.

actually, I have. the only reason i considered doing UD2 is because i essentially hit a wall with dieting normally (a moderate deficit, vegetables, lifting, etc)
I kindof find pleasure in doing something so intense- i’ve always counted my calories, done my research, and kicked my ass in the gym (the glycogen depletions detailed in the book should be great in a strange, masochist way)
I’m sick of all my peers (especially my roomate) in college telling me that “all you need to do to become lean and muscular is p90x”
then they poke fun at me for being so “scientifically ground” and strict with nutrition. [and being on sites like this too much]

and the deal is, I DO want to get to a single digit (around 14% at the moment) - just to become more lean than those idiot p90x people and shut them up (yeah, kind of a juvenille motivation, but its been going on for a while)
that being said, my genes are rather average.. do I have a realistic shot at this? provided I put in all the effort into UD 2.0?
