First, I agree completely with the article on rep ranges and HGH response. However, shouldn’t we be looking at Testosterone? Testosterone is the real muscle builder so what about the effects of reps and exercise on it? I thought that 90% of 1RM (or 5 reps or so) was proven to elicit the highest response of Testosterone? Also, that compound movements such as squats elicited more than a leg extension? Have we proven that this is not the case and I have overlooked it?
Possibly.
The studies on rep ranges are kind of everywhere. It seems like both low and high reps elevate acute levels of testosterone. Higher volume seems to elevate test. And compound exercises do increase test than isolation.
From what I have seen, there is no direct evidence that this acute increase can cause or is enough to change muscle mass or strength. And there is too much variables like Free test, SHBG, and androgen receptor.
I might have to ee if there is anything recent out there on test and training.
Good point Jim.
