Just wanted to start a discussion about good books you guys have been reading lately.

I usually stick with non-fiction reading. I just feel like i don’t have the time to read fiction. One book I have been reading and like a lot is by Carol Tavris:

Mistakes were Made (but not by me).

This books talks about how and why we always try to justify our mistakes or can never accept the fact we were wrong. It talks how it causes a cognitive dissonance in our brain which is hard for us to digest. It talks about how couples who get divorced always think that it is because of the other that they are leaving, how psychiatrist still cannot admit how they made big blunder with their stupid repressed memories concept in the 1980’s, and how judges and police can never admit they made a mistake after convicting the wrong guy.

What I really like how it embraces the scientific process and talks about how science is arrogance control. A book I feel everyone should read.

I checked his book. It seems to be more of fictional writing which is not in my alley. I will check it out if it is in my library though.

Going through Critical Thinking in Research by Julian Meltzoff. Lot of good stuff, but not at all a fun book to read.

Are you talking about physiology stuff or just application?

I usually don’t buy books unless they are that useful. I have Exercise Physiology from Scott K Powers. Was my professor in grad school. Willmore and costill is good too. I had a different book for grad school which was very technical and went into the molecular level quite a bit.

Advanced Nutrition and Human Metabolism by Groff is good too.

I get a lot of books from the inter library loan. And I just don’t remember most of their names.

Here is a good list from Lyle:

I mainly just need some primers: all the knowledge i’ve gathered has been from months of combing your site, reading Lyle’s books and forums, and Alan Aragon’s research reviews

My college, due to the lack of students enrolled, does not offer a Nutrition class anymore. So I was looking for resources on which I can learn on my own.

Thanks Anoop! I’ll probably go to the uni soon and check out those books.

Let me say first of that I am not a combat junky (heck I’m not even a vet), but I LOVE military strategy. I loved playing risk as a kid and scenario paintball as an adult so I am reading Warfighting by the US Marine Core. Its free online, but I prefer hard copies.

Anyone read “Strength and Power in Sport”? I think it’s a really good book for people into a bit advanced physiology behind training.

Anoop, I was wondering if you could give a small description of why you recommend the books you do on your booklist
I was looking at them, and one of them, Super Squats, promises “30 pounds of muscle in 6 weeks” which is pretty ridiculous. My only guess is that there’s some valuable information in there when it comes to bulking.

I have read the book by Komi about Stength and power in sport. Not too much application, but has a lot of good references. I have used those a lot.

Those aren’t my book lists. Mine are only on my page. Amazon puts those on my side bar. I only recommend those which I have read and seems to be a good read.

And please use that link if you are buying any books(or anything else) from amazon. I get a percentage like 4%.Not much but still helps. I will update the lists every time I come access something good.
