i’m starting tomorrow, at the 20% surplus, with my training looking like lyle’s, so 2x a week per bodypart.
i suppose I will adjust accordingly the surplus depending on how much i gain the first month.

i’m curious though, how you achieve b), try to increase LBM without bulking.

i’ll post pics up regularly, and start a log
thanks for the advice, mav

Sounds good Mumford…I look forward to tracking your progress.

As to how to achieve lean bulking, there’s good news and bad news.

The good news is that it is possible, so long as you’re very dedicated and super patient.

The bad news…unless you’re a noobie to training or a detrained former lifter, it’s excruciatingly slow and for some, all but impossible.

Options (a) and (c) on the other hand are relatively straight-forward and reliable.

Cheers
Mav

Mumford, are you sure about doing Lyle’s bulking routine?
It’s quite advanced program

I agree with Jim and Mavros.

You have done a great job of losing all that weight and you look great! congrats again.

I think you can gradually start putting back some quality muscle. I will keep an eye on you log too.

Thanks for everyone’s support and advice!
I look forward to slow bulking.

Anatoly, Correct me if i’m wrong but I though Lyle’s bulking routine is aimed for intermediate lifters, whereas his specialization routine is aimed at the more advanced ones.

I have been training consistently for about over an year
my PRS go something like:
Bench: 205 lbs
Squat: 250 lbs
Chins: 210 lbs

That qualifies me as intermediate, right?

There are two issues: an ability to recover from 4 days week training and an ability to work close to failure(but not too close)
If you feel you can do it - go ahead.
I don’t think that PR’s alone describes athlete level(of cause if you had 400lbs bench press will be no doubt smile)
good luck
and great job so far!!!

thanks for the support/advice, anatoly!

I guess I’ll see how the training goes, and if I can recover fast enough
if not, I’ll switch up the routine.
