I will keep it simple:

1. Eat less
2. Exercise more

Ask her to check the articles read through the articles I have here. If she has any questions, please tell her to join the forum.

And adding, L-Carnitine will not work.

IME, clients do better when they have some control over the diet design.  This reflects the dieting axiom, “The best diet is the one you stick to”.

So, keeping in mind that you absolutely must establish a chronic energy deficit (week in, week out), it’s largely up to your friend as to how to achieve that:

If she likes rich foods, maybe the low-carb (i.e. Atkins style) approach will work; if she prefers feeling full all the time, maybe the ‘volumetrics’ approach is better (i.e. lots of fibre to fill up ther stomach and gut), if she’s the fastidious type, then a simple ol’ fashioned calorie controlled diet may be the go…

It really is horses for courses…so long as you keep hitting that energy deficit !

What kind of exercises does she already do?

If she’s already doing major compound moves like squats and deadlifts (which she should be, assuming there’s no physio-pathology or other very good reason!), then that’s probably all the work she’ll need at this stage.

Doing light, high-rep isolation work on the stomach muscles (rectus abdominus is the famous ‘six-pack’ muscle) is largely a waste of time…better off sticking with the heavy compound movements…they give you much more ‘bang for your buck’ (provided she’s been properly instructed on how to correctly perform them?).

The rest is all diet !

Cheers
