Hey,

I didn´t posted that in the research section because its more a review of Dr. Stoppani on that subject:

He is also the author of MF RAW.
I find him not THAT symathic (the voice and how he speaks is annoying to me)

Let me know what you think!

Basically, in two words:
“train close to failure, but not too close”
that simple

True.
But i think if you cycle you training properly it will “autoregulate” itself.

I agree with Anatoly. People think failure training something like an on and off switch: If you hit failure, you activated something and if you don’t, you didn’t. It lies on a continuum. So even if you are close to failure you are getting the benefits of going to failure.

Adding: low reps you can stay away from failure. For high reps, better to go close to failure.

I meant if you cycle weights properly you probably don´t need to worry bout that.

Like classic 5x5 ramp up over 4 weeks. In the ramp up weeks you are under 80%of 1rpm and you stay at your rep scheme: 5x5.
After some weeks the weight gets heavy enough, that it recruits all fibers. Further goin to failure will not make a great differrence then.

Thats always sth I thought regarding 531. Does the “all out set” really contributes to the programms sucess in an physiological sense? I think the progressive overload is the core here.

The last set might only stimulate motivation.

Since the sets are done with weight where you are way below your true 5RM, the last set to failure might be required.

It is best to do the program as it is outlined. And when you get stuck, you can think of changing things.

Hm. I thought if I should do it the same way when I ramp up in my new template.

Sounds fun-but I think its difficult to ride the right wáve here and not overdo it.

Also the 531 is in essential a SLOW ramp up, like HST, 5x5, or any intensity cycling format and this is thought to slowly get in the heavy territrium without wearing yourself out.

The last set is fun, but I think its dangerous not to overdo it and kill progress on the way to the heavy weight weeks.
